Hi! I’m Dr. Rachel Wellner, MD., MPH., FACS.
I can recall my early days in the Operating Room, forced to wear uncomfortable, itchy, chemical disposable caps.
In addition to the nasty feel in my scalp, the chemical composition of these hats left me with an acne line where the hat made contact with my skin. Whenever I tried to wear caps designed for men — which boasted a much sleeker shape — someone would censure me about my hair falling out of the smaller hat.
It was a very uncomfortable cap and remained so throughout the years.
By the time I was a senior resident, sweet relief! I was allowed to wear my own cloth hat. Little did I know how kind of disgusting most of them were. I don’t recall exactly where I found my cloth hats, but they were dingy, stained, and boasted kind of a smell. I had traded in one problem for another.
With this in mind, I decided to take action.
While maintaining sterility of the patient is of paramount importance to me and my colleagues, I always felt that there was room for self- expression and comfort in the Operating Room.
This became the driving force behind WellnerCare — a line of male, female, and unisex caps made for surgeons, dentists, and nurses that each practitioner would be proud to wear. Not only are the caps made of 97% cotton and 3% Spandex for stretch, they provide a high degree of comfort and breathability.
Furthermore, they are adorned with slogans illustrating general characteristics of surgeons, dentists, and nurses with a touch of humor. Caps can also be customized for specific hospitals and/or practitioners. If you’ve ever been forced to wear a run-of-the-mill surgical cap, you will hopefully share my sentiments about the need to create an attractive hat that you can be proud of.
I worked with well-known designer LeeAnn Stevens, who has turned her attention to every detail, and together we made sure to take into account the differences in fields requiring unique features.

Hi! I’m LeeAnn Stevens, designer of WellnerCare Caps
LeeAnn Stevens is a designer with 40 years’ experience in the apparel industry, including a successful line of medical scrubs.
Her skills include design sourcing, production, fit, and quality assurance. LeeAnn attended Stephens College in Columbia Missouri, where she earned her BFA in Fashion Design.
As a child of 10, she began making her own clothes, an early passion that expanded into a bustling career.
Wellnercare caps are unique in the market for several reasons
